TOTAL Refinery Leuna, Germany

HPC AG Germany received a project from TOTAL Germany to prepare the “Initial State Report (AZB – Ausgangszustandsbericht) according to The Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) for their refinery LEUNA.

Fuels, jobs and a great deal of commitment to education, culture and sport. This is how the TOTAL refinery at the Leuna chemical site can be described. As one of the most modern refineries in Europe, the refinery in Leuna, with a maximum annual processing capacity of 12 million tonnes of crude oil, sets standards in terms of environmental protection, safety and energy efficiency.

The TOTAL refinery went into operation in 1997 after a three-year construction period and produces around three million tonnes of petrol per year. It thus largely covers the needs of Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and Thuringia. Around 1,300 filling stations in the refinery's catchment area are supplied from Leuna. The refinery is also Germany's largest producer of methanol, an important raw material for the chemical industry.

The refinery's distillation plant processes an average of 30,000 tonnes of crude oil per day, which flows via pipelines, mainly from Russia, into the storage tanks. The finished products reach the market by road, rail and pipeline.
